Solica Cassuto is a Greek actress. She is the second wife of actor Andy Griffith. Apart from being the wife of such a famous person, she is also an actor in the United States, a comedian, movie producer, gospel singer and a song writer. Her career has spanned over seventy years and are majorly in music and film.
Griffith’s previous marriage before Solica Cassuto
Solica Cassuto is not Andy Griffith’s first wife. Before marrying her, he was previously married to a lady named Barbara Bray Edwards. Andy Griffith and Barbara Edwards married on the 22nd of April, in 1949. They did not give birth to any children of their own; instead, they adopted two lovely kids. The names of the kids are:
- Andy Samuel Griffith Jr
- Dixie Nann Griffith
Andy Samuel Griffith Jr was born in 1957, his sister, Dixie Nann Griffith, who was also adopted was born much later. It is important to mention that Samuel Griffith Jr, who was a real estate developer died in 1996 after years of alcohol abuse.
Unfortunately in the year 1972, Barbara and Andy got divorced. Their separation came as a result of the couple growing apart.
Before Solica Cassuto, Griffith and Barbara Bray Edwards were married on August 22, 1949, and they adopted two children: a son named Andy Samuel Griffith Jr. (born in 1957 and better known as Sam Griffith) and a daughter named Dixie Nann Griffith. They divorced in 1972.

Andy Griffith later divorced Solica Cassuto and married his third wife Cindi Knight. They got married on April 12 of 1983. The two had met when Andy was on the set of Murder in Coweta County.

How did Solica Cassuto and Andy Griffith meet?
Like I have stated earlier, there isn’t much information available about how Solica met Andy. The circumstances that led to their marriage is not known. We do however know the circumstances that surrounded their marriage.
Solica Cassuto’s marriage to Andy Griffith raised may eyebrows. The two couple did not seem compatible in the eye of the public. Ken Berry said in his book Andy and Don: The Making of a Friendship and a Classic American TV show, “You would never see a more unlikely couple”.
On why Ken Berry said the quote displayed above, we can draw a some answers from his description of the two. Andy was a conservative person while Solica Cassuto, on the other hand, was the direct opposite, instead being a free spirited person.

At the wedding — which featured a large harp in the middle of the backyard instead of Opie’s bike — Berry said, Solica “looked like a flower child.”
“I don’t mean that in a bad way,” Berry said. “But the image that Andy has — you would just never pick them as a couple.”

Andy Griffith and Solica Cassuto’s first house was the house where they got joined in matrimony. It used to belong to Bing Crosby, a popular musician and the couple would often dance and sing along to his records.
“We pretend it’s Bing singing in our shower,” Griffith joked to Detroit Free Press in 1975.
On whether Solica made a good wife, Andy Griffith was very positive. He noted that she was a good wife who was nice to him and his children. He also mentioned how she cared about his kids from his first marriage.
Andy’s first serious health concern occured in April of 1983 when doctors diagnosed him with Guillain-Barré syndrome. He suffered from partial paralysis which affected most parts of the lower half of his body, in particular from his knees down.
On May 9, 2000, he underwent quadruple heart-bypass surgery at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
Solica Cassuto’s ex-husband experienced another health concern when he had a fall in which he sustained injuries and fracture. On the 5th of September, 2007, he had surgery on his hips at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
In 2012, Solica Cassuto’s ex husband, Andy Griffith died from a cardiac arrest at his coastal home in Manteo, Roanoke Island in North Carolina. He was aged 86 at the time of his death. Within five hours of his death, he was buried in a family cemetery on the island.
Since then, not much has been heard about Solica Cassuto. Information about her were begining to get scarce since the time she got divorced from the late actor and comedian.
