Pyle was named by his parents after the state capital, Denver. Bob Denver owes his surname to the Mile High City as well. It was named after James William Denver, his great-great grandfather.

Pyle rose to prominence later in his career as a result of his success as a character actor. In 1997, less than two weeks before his death on December 25, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Pyle, who appeared sickly, attended the historic event. Tippie’s spouse was not scheduled to speak at the ceremony, but he did anyway.
