Lila Zidane is the elder sister of Real Madrid and France football legend, Zinedine Zidane. She was born to Algerian parents [Smail Zidane] of five children including: Mahjid Zidane, Farid Zidane, Noureddine Zidane, Lila Zidane and of course Zinedine Zidane.
Although the Zidane family hails from Algeria, in mainland Africa, they have French citizenship. All the Zidane siblings were born in Marseille, including Lila and Zinedine.

Lila Zidane is most famous for being the cause of a brawl between Marco Materazzi of Italy and Zinedine Zidane, France’s captain, in the 2006 final that eventually resulted in Zidane headbutting the Italian and getting sent off.

Zinedine Zidane — who had, earlier in the game, scored a ridiculous Panenka penalty was sent off for headbutting Italian defender, Marco Materazzi. Apparently, Materazzi had said something to upset Zinedine.

But what did Marco actually say to cause Zinedine to flair up like that? Football enthusiasts have for long thought it was an insult to Zidane’s mother that caused the outburst but Marco Materazzi later denied this.
In 2017, the Italian said “My mother died when I was 15, I would never have insulted his. I spoke about his sister, not his mother.”
Three years later, we’d finally hear the full story from the Materazzi during a live question and answer session on Instagram.
“Zidane’s headbutt? I wasn’t expecting it in that moment,” Materazzi explained. “I was lucky enough that the whole episode took me by surprise because if I had expected something like that to happen and had been ready for it, I’m sure both of us would have ended up being sent off.
“There had been a bit of contact between us in the area. He had scored France’s goal in the first half and our coach (Marcello Lippi) told me to mark him. After that first brush between us, I apologised but he reacted badly.
“The late tackles, altercations and exchanges continued until 110 minutes, when things reached a head.
“After the third clash, I frowned and he retorted: ‘I’ll give you my shirt later’. I replied that I’d rather have his sister than his shirt.”

This was what cause Zidane to headbutt Materazzi and consequently get him sent off. Italy later won the match on penalties after the game finished 1 goal apiece.
